Brief History of Hornsey YMCA

In 1903, Mr Herbert Bedall founded the Crouch End (later called Hornsey) YMCA.

Mr Bedall's aim was to provide shelter for young homeless people in an environment characterised by Christian care, love and understanding.

We are still providing such an environment for vulnerable young people today, but we cannot do this without your help.

We would like to keep a few emergency rooms open for urgent accommodation needs.

We regularly turn down homeless applicants due to lack of available bedspace. This is a problem faced by many housing-providers in London. Keeping beds free for emergency homelessness represents a significant cost on our part and we hope that you could help us to cover some of these costs.

Aim

To provide an emergency bed for homeless people aged 18 to 30 years old all year round. In addition, we will provide:

Breakfast and dinner
Accommodate urgent homeless concerns
Housing support

Who can refer

• Churches
• Police
• Haringey Council
• Other Housing Associations

How you can help

A one-off or periodical donation on your part will allow us to keep beds open so that we can accommodate homeless people at their time of need.

We are not asking for a weekly or monthly commitment. We appreciate any monetary help we can get, whether a one-off contribution or a periodical commitment.

For just a few pounds, you can help provide some warmth and respite for a homeless Londoner tonight!
