Fundraising

When the Hornsey YMCA Crouch End 10k and Children's Fun Run was launched in 1991 it had two aims:-

  • To get people interested and participating in physical activity in a fun way
    and
  • To raise money for good causes
These aims remain unchanged in 2009.

With ten races and more than 2,600 runners each year, we can safely say that we have peoples' interest, and our feedback from participants, certainly shows they are having fun.

We have raised more than £145,000 for good causes in the last 18 years, and would like to move that up a gear in 2009. If every runner raised just £10 each, we could distribute £26,000 to local good causes - money that would make a real difference. We'd like each runner support this goal by pledging their personal fundraising target when they enter. - Let's see if we can make this yet another record breaking year!

Our nominated charities this year are:-
  • YMCA charities (including the Hornsey YMCA Bursary Fund and YCare International). The Bursary Fund considers applications for free places on the Hornsey YMCA Children's Programme from children and families who might otherwise not be able to benefit from them. It also funds free community projects such as Fun in the Park and various Youth Programmes.
  • The Bobath Centre (which supports children with Cerebral Palsy). Go to Go to bobath.org.uk for further information.
  • CARIS Haringey (helping homeless families). Go to carisharingey.org.uk for further information.
  • Buttercups Nursery and Playgroup

In 2008 we raised nearly £19,000 for our five nominated charities; a tremendous effort, but we want to do more, and there are three ways you can help:

1. By far the easiest and most effective way to raise money is by setting up your own page on www.justgiving.com and inviting your entire email address book to sponsor you. Our most successful fundraisers over the past few years have always had Just Giving pages, often raising money in the four figures. It's relatively effortless, and the tax benefits of Gift Aid are all done for us. Go to www.justgiving.com and follow the instructions, using the Hornsey YMCA account which has been set up especially for the Fun Run. All of the money raised goes to the Fund Raising totals.

2. You can make a donation of any amount you'd like for the nominated charities when you enter the race - just fill in the relevant section of the entry form and pay your donation when you enter. Simple, easy and generous.

3. We're not ignoring the old fashion route: you can download a sponsorship form by clicking on:

All sponsorship forms should be returned by Friday 24th July 2009 to qualify for fundraising prizes.
